I hope so! Because the dōTERRA is about to TAKE OVER SALT LAKE CITY!! And...you might not know it yet, but YOUR ENTIRE LIFE is about to change! Convention is SO MUCH MORE than just sitting and learning about oils.

CONVENTION IS.png

There is NOTHING like it. Convention is where the oil business moves from your head to your heart. You’ll see the owners, hear their stories, and realize that they function from a place of goodness, integrity, and humility. You’ll meet people that you’ve only “met” online. You will leave CHANGED. Our first year at convention, we attended as Golds with 1 person from our team...my mama. And in our biggest year we had 225! Anything is possible!

LET'S TALK LOGISTICS!

Salt Lake City is a beautiful and clean city! Crisp clean air and expansive mountain views are par for the course. Most of you will be flying in...so take a good look at the beauty out your plane window! Speaking of flying in...let's start our little chat with airport and transportation.

visit the official doterra convention site

How far is the airport from downtown and what is the best mode of transportation?
The airport is a 10 minute drive and a 30 minute train ride from downtown. TRAX (SLC train service) is clean and reliable. It's $2.50 one way or $6.25 for a day pass. The train stop is located at the south end of Terminal One. Bus stops are located on the curb outside of the Welcome Center at the south end of Terminal One and outside of Terminal Two adjacent to bag claim number 8. A train leaves the Airport for the city center every 15 minutes on weekdays. Uber is another easy way to get around SLC. Download the Uber app on your phone now so you are ready!

What about parking?
There are 2 underground lots for the Salt Palace:

  • South Lot – Enter off of 200 South between West Temple and 200 West (600 stalls)

  • West Lot – Enter off of 300 West between 100 South and South Temple (400 stalls)

There are lots and lots of parking spots all around downtown. Here is a map of available parking.

What’s the weather like?
SLC temps in September are generally in the mid-70's to low 80's with nightly lows in the 50s. And SUNNY!

When do I pick up my registration packet?
As soon as you can! Registration will open at 8:30am on Wednesday morning at the Salt Palace Convention Center. Don’t forget to wear your badge everywhere! You’ll need it to get in every door and Gala.

the official faq list is here

What should I wear?
Wear LAYERS!! The general sessions might start out cool...but by the end of the day, with everyone in there sweatin' and clappin' and goin' crazy...it gets hot! But evenings can be chilly. Dressy or casual? You will see a WIDE RANGE of apparel...everything from jeans, t-shirts, and crocs to pencil skirts and blazers. Mostly you will see business casual...but professional. Wear something that you will feel confident and comfortable in!

Can I take my oils on the airplane? Will the x-ray affect my oils?
When I travel, I generally don't get stopped at all for having an "extra" bag of oils (separate from my toiletries). Each airport will be a bit different, but this has been my experience the last couple of years.  Dr. Hill indicates that they have done testing and the radiation from x-rays does not impact an essential oils’s effectiveness. To boost your immune system, rub some of that On Guard on the vent above your seat and huff it throughout the plane ride!

If you are attending the GALA...
You'll want to dress up. Like Prom! ;-) No but seriously...it's dressy. Many people will be in black tie / evening apparel…and many will have on cute but less dressy outfits! Just dress your best and have a BLAST! If you were lucky enough to snag a ticket...you'll have the time of your life! It starts at 7pm...but arrive early to get your photo taken on the carpet and grab your swag. There will be lots of cheering for new ranks and then amazing entertainment!

What’s a typical day like?
First of all...how cute is my mom and her funny panoramic distorted finger?! LOL! Now...the typical day. You will be up early in the morning to get your seats. Doors usually open 2 hours ahead of time. Silvers and up can get in the "secret" entrance around the south side...before everyone else gets in. It's generally not encouraged to save large blocks of seats...but a handful should be fine! I would recommend staying at eye level with the screen you you aren't looking up all day. And if you get too high up, the sound is harder to hear.

You will sit A LOT. And you will walk A LOT. InTune, Past Tense, and Deep Blue are necessities for these long days! It starts to smell REALLY good in the arena. LOL! There will be lots of listening to amazing stats and speakers and music and fun! And...there will be NEW PRODUCTS announced! Weeeeeee! If you're like me...you might want to bring some snacks with you to eat throughout the day. There aren't a lot of places to get snacks on site.

After all the fun during the day, you'll be up late at night laughing and bonding and connecting with your new dōTERRA family. BUT...don't forget to take your vitamins and TRY to get some sleep! It will be a whirlwind of a weekend! It's a good idea to stock up on your sleep bank the week before so that you're at 100% energy levels! Take your LLV faithfully and bring lots of Mito2Max!

You might feel the need to rush around and match the pace and energy of the crowd. But just.slow.it.down. The best advice I can give you is to choose 1-4 people to sit with, eat with, travel with, etc. It's very difficult to travel in a pack of 5 or more...especially at convention. So pick some buddies! It will make it easier to do a lot of stuff. If you are attending alone or without a team, you will meet lots of new friends (and see old friends) at the TRIBE Meet & Greet.

Here is a map of the main area that you'll be walking around. And like I said....you will walk A LOT. There are sweet little Bike Taxis if you get tired of walking!

MAP KEY:
1. Vivent Smart Home Arena (VSHA)
2. Salt Palace Convention Center (SPCC)
3. Radisson
4. Starbucks
5. USPS (for shipping your goodies home)
6. Restaurants and shopping
7. Shopping
8. More hotels

Will there be somewhere to charge my phone?
No, not IN the sessions. My advice? Bring a mobile charger pack for your phone. Our favorite one is Mophie Juice Pack. Don't go cheap...they don't hold a charge and will only charge once. You will be so happy you brought one. You'll be taking TONS of videos and photos of the big screen / presentations and your phone will be DEAD in a a hot second. There is nothing worse than trying to meet your friends for dinner after a long day at convention and your phone is dead! You may be able to find an outlet in the corridors of the VSHA / SPCC, but they get swiped fast!

How much money should I bring?
Plan your budget to grab a few exclusive convention items! The dōTERRA swag store will have items that you can’t purchase anywhere else. You’ll find clothing and other accessories. These have historically been my very favorite items!

What is the "Convention Kit"?
The convention kit is only available at convention. It consists of ALL the new products released, as well as a few other goodies. BIRCH essential oil will be included as well…and it's the only time all year that you can get birch. The kit usually runs around $275 (products are discounted in this kit!). This counts towards your OV for the month BUT it cannot be counted as your monthly LRP. You can purchase 4 kits if you’re in person and 2 kits if you’re watching online.

Where can I get fun oil goodies?
OilLife, ShareOils, Essential Oil Gear and MANY more vendors will be at surrounding hotels and on every corner. It’s a great time to stock up on customer gifts and swag!

I highly recommend taking the corporate tour if you haven’t already…it’s a MUST SEE! You’ll also be able to visit several oil supply stores across the street. Here is an overhead map of the corporate area, along with Aromatools and OilLife (formerly known as My Oil Business).

How do I get all of my loot home?
You’ve purchased all of this loot. Convention kit, labels, rollerballs, hoodies, hats...now what? You have a few options:
Bring an extra empty suitcase or leave lots of room in your checked bag when you fly in. You will want to check this suitcase on the return trip home because there may be liquids. One year, we received the On Guard laundry soap in the convention kit. Wayyyyy too much liquid for a carry-on. OR...Ship your items home. I’ve noted the location of a local USPS on the little handy-dandy map above. You can fill up a flat-rate box or two and you’re good.

Where are the best places to eat?
Downtown SLC has a number of really good restaurants! Whatever your palette, you’ll find something by just taking a little walk around downtown!
Check out this site for a list.

Some of our favorites:
J Wong’s Thai
Lake Effect
Freshfin Poke
Blue Lemon

You have a few different options for lunch each day:
1. Order delivery or get take out and find a nice place and sit outside.
2. Gather a group of friends and go to a yummy nearby restaurant (smaller group will be easier to seat fast)

OK! Let's Review:
1. Wear comfy shoes...or flips to change into when you want to walk faster :)
2. Layer and dress comfortably, but professionally.
3. Take good notes and lots of photos of the big screen to share them with your teams!
4. Bring a water bottle and stay hydrated! SLC is at a higher altitude, so make a point to drink more water than usual.
5. Find yourself a buddy...or buddies. Stick together and have fun!
6. Be on time...because you won't want to miss a thing!
 And one last thing...
